"Inch by inch, life’s a cinch. Yard by yard, life’s hard." ― John Bytheway

This is the second installment in a two-part series on self-care. If you missed the first one go ahead and read that first.

To successfully implement a new self-care practice consider habit stacking. “Attach” the new activity to an existing habit. Complete a current established action and immediately follow it up with the new action.

Self Care Practices
Grounding
Go outside and walk around barefoot. Feel the earth beneath your feet. If you can’t get outside, walk around in your house and visualize being outdoors. Picture walking through a field of lush grass or on a path through the woods. Engage your senses. How does the ground feel? What do you hear? What do you see?

Music
Music can be very calming and can help to balance energy. Use it to create a peaceful, relaxing environment.

Turn off all electronic devices and notifications. Listen to nature sounds, New Age instrumental music, chanting, or whatever music you find relaxing. If you prefer, just sing or hum.

Colors
Do you find that you're drawn to certain colors? Open your closet and take a look. Are most of your clothes in a similar color family?

Every color has a frequency. The use of color can help bring your body back to its proper vibration when it is out of balance.

Choose clothing and home decor in colors that have a positive effect on how you feel, be it calm, energized, or uplifted.

When getting ready in the morning be conscious of the colors you pick to wear that day and also the jewelry that “speaks to you.”

Scents
Scents are the fastest way to reach the limbic system, mood center, of the brain. They can influence you mood and emotions, and elicit memories. They can also be used to release particular feelings or emotions and promote others.

Experiment with different fragrances and see how they make you feel. Natural, not chemically manufactured, fragrances are the best. Think flowers, herbs and spices, trees, essential oils, etc.

To relieve stress and promote a sense of calm use essential oils such as lavender, bergamot, harmony, joy, or stress away. Uplifting scents include lemon, orange, grapefruit, and tangerine.

Affirmations
An affirmation is defined as a statement that something is true. When you repeat a statement to yourself that you want to be true, over time, you start to believe it. That’s because your subconscious mind can’t distinguish between what’s actually true and what’s imagined. To manifest the affirmation it’s important that you feel it as well.

The statement must be declarative in nature. Avoid words such as try, want, need, hope, or attempt. Instead declare I am, I do, I choose to, I claim, I can, I will.

A great resource for making upgrades in your life through the use of speech is the book Conscious Language by Robert Tennyson Stevens. Get it here: https://consciouslanguagecreations.com)

What self-care practice are you going to start? Pick one and set aside a few minutes every day to do it. Stack it with another activity and before you know it you’ll have a new self-care habit.
